Site News Archives - 2000 Wednesday, December 13th, 2000
Perhaps bigger news than that is that Andrew has worked on his pages a bit. He started them weeks ago, but he's only now ready for people to take a look. Who am I kidding? Of course that's bigger news. I think it deserves a headline:
Click here to check them out.
Tuesday, December 5th, 2000Due to some possibly valid complaints, the entire site's color scheme has been brightened up a bit. I hope everyone likes it, especially the complainers. I also fixed 4 grammar problems on the Boomerang page. I hope they didn't bug anybody too badly. Keep those suggestions and complaints coming! I have added a new page: The Advice Page. There you will find the wisdom of the ages relating to all things technical (or at least the geeky stuff I'm interested in). I have also altered the Bighead Voting Page to include the results there instead of posting them here whenever I tally them. Minor updates to the Boomerang page. I was loaned The Tauhert Collection and I am gradually scanning them in. Now you can see the boomerang Andrew Tauhert set his records with. Tuesday, November 28th, 2000
There's also a new version of the "Holly Angel" collage there, along with the precursors to my new work of art. One more thing added to that page is an old abstract painting I did in high school. By request I also added a link to a really funny web page. I haven't had a chance to check it out myself, but I am assured that it is hilarious. (I aim to please. Keep those comments coming!) Sunday, November 26th, 2000Fixed the Links page so external sites come up in their own window instead of inside my frames. Wednesday, November 23rd, 2000
Happy Thanksgiving, Everybody! Sunday, November 19th, 2000Added a cool black-and-white photo as a place holder for Michelle's personal page off of the Family page. To the Friends section of the Photos page, I added some snapshots from "Monkey Show 96", and a self-portrait from the Tahoe ski trip. Added a few pieces of art to the Graphics page, including my most recent work, Sleepover, and to the Doctored Photos page, some work that's not even mine. And can't believe my luck in finding a rare piece by that noted computer graphics genius, Chris Crosby. This gave me the idea of creating the email address submissions@brucearmstrong.net so people can send in anything they'd like to see appear here. Saturday, November 18th, 2000Added a short "Monkey Show 96" clip to the Videos page. Added the CD Label for "Andrew's First Mix - 1999" to the Graphics page. Friday, November 17th, 2000I'd like to thank everyone for your valuable feedback. Your Complaints/Praise/Suggestions/Problem Reports are really appreciated. I've just added a couple more photos of the kids and since someone asked for more photos of Michelle and I, I have added a page of our famous Self-Portraits. Michelle dug around in some old photos and found a bunch of pictures we took of ourselves. I hope you like them, Julie! Luckily, she also found some old photos of some of the early works of Digital Boomerang Systems. I scanned some in and added them to the Boomerangs page. I've added a very preliminary Holly page to the mostly-empty Family page. And lastly, I have added a new form on the Contact Us page where you can enter your email address if you want to be kept up-to-date on any changes made to the site. Kind of hokey, but some people are really interested. The photo everyone's been waiting for has arrived! Well, sort of. I couldn't find the original Bighead1.jpg that caused such a stir in 1994, but I have used my photo doctoring skills to create a pretty good likeness. Actually, there are two choices and I'm letting you, the public, vote on which one is best. Go here to check them out and vote. Update: The voting now stands at Bighead3.jpg=71% and Bighead2.jpg=29%. I guess I shouldn't have posted results earlier as that seems to have affected the voting since then, swinging the edge wildly toward Bighead3. Newer Update: (11/17/00) - The voting has really taken off and now stands at 50/50. If I can find the original print, I will rescan it at a higher resolution so I can create Bighead4.jpg to blow the competition away. I will recount the votes however many times it takes until my candidate wins. Thursday, November 16th, 2000Added the Videos page under the Graphics page. There are some morphing videos and an old Digital Boomerang Systems logo video. Check it out. I have received complaints about the Boomerang page being blank. To placate these individuals, I scanned in several boomerangs and finally started on the page. Scanning in the boomerangs was incredibly tough because I had to do it in two or more pieces and cut-and-paste them together. Oh, how I wish I had a digital camera! I also added a list of links to the bottom of this page for people thinking about setting up their own websites. (Michelle told me that some of her co-workers had asked about it.) Wednesday, November 15th, 2000Well... I guess technically its Wednesday, and this is a pretty big change so I'm putting it up here by itself. What's the big change? If you've been here before, you've probably already noticed the difference. After some constructive criticism, I got rid of the banner across the top of the page and moved the logos around a bit. The top banner was wasting a bit of space. When I finally viewed the page at 1024x768, I saw that things were a little more cramped than I had intended. Now there is a little more room for content without having to scroll around the page so much. So... This is the new layout. Tuesday, November 14th, 2000I finally started on the Graphics page. So far I have added some doctored photos and some 3D renderings, but expect more here soon. Saturday, November 11th, 2000The kids' new school photos are here! I have bought a new scanner so expect the Photos page to grow tons in the coming weeks. Tuesday, October 31st, 2000I have added many DSL Speed Tests and Tweaks links along with Internet/Networking security links. Monday, October 30th, 2000The hit counter seems to be working correctly now. (The reason it wasn't working is that I was manually copying files to my web server directory. When I started using FrontPage's "Publish Web" function, it started working like a beauty.) I also created a custom counter graphic to make the counter match the style of the rest of the site. See the bottom of this page. I cleaned up the links page a bit and sorted my favorite links into categories since Aaron finally bought a DVD player. I added the old "Falls Creek" photos to the Miscellaneous section of the Photos page. I created a DVD Page that is now accessible from the links page. Sunday, October 29th, 2000Got some excellent feedback from "Other Andrew" (Mr. Tauhert) today. I have thrown away all my HTML and totally redesigned the site from scratch. Hope you like the new look! I also made the look into a FrontPage "theme", so whenever I create new pages, they all automatically look like this one. I also spent some time today working on the links section and customizing the "Contact Us" form. I changed the menu/contents bar on the left again, mainly so I could add a "links" button. Astute readers will also notice that this "Site News" section didn't exist before and the dates and news are probably made up. Saturday, October 28th, 2000I've started working on the Photos page, so you can see a few photos there now, with tons more to come later. I've got a lot of scanning to do. I also added a hit counter to this page, but it seems to get reset every time I make an update. I'll look into that soon. Friday, October 27th, 2000The BruceArmstrong.net logo above started out to be a throw-away space filler, but with a little tweaking, I got it to really match the feel of the site and I think I'll keep it. I also changed the color of the spinning "ba" logo. Some people might be annoyed by spinning and flashing graphics, so I'll try to keep stuff tasteful. Thursday, October 26th, 2000Right now the Games link is about the only one with any content. And when you get to that page you'll see that the custom game content (tracks, levels, paint jobs) that is meant to be there isn't there yet. Wednesday, October 26th, 2000This is the beginning. I've worked out what I basically want things to look like. I'm pretty satisfied with the navigation bar on the left, but I want to change it to be expandable/collapsible. For instance, you click on "family" and the under that appear buttons for Bruce, Michelle, Andrew and Holly. I expect it will be pretty hard to have this and the "glow when the mouse passes over" effect simultaneously. We'll see...

Some people have asked what all I've used to get this site up-and-running. I hope to provide a detailed description some day, but for now, use these links:
